Meg Okura - Superstar Grammy® Nominated, Japan-Born, Award Winning, Composer And Violinist. Juilliard Classical Musician Who Improvises. David Bowie, Michael Brecker, Dianne Reeves, Cirque du Soleil!
Meg Okura is a Tokyo, Japan-born, Grammy® nominated, award winning composer and violinist. This woman is a Superstar! She does it all. She’s that rarest of musicians - a Juilliard-trained classical musician who can improvise with the best of them. Her music combines jazz, classical, chamber music, orchestral, improvisation, and world music. And she mixes all of these influences into each work. Her resume goes on forever and includes orchestral works, chamber music, large-ensemble jazz, culturally informed compositions, and free improvisation. She’s the Artistic and Music Director of the Michael Brecker Quindectet. She leads the Pan Asian Chamber Jazz Ensemble. She’s worked with Dianne Reeves and David Bowie, and been a part of Cirque du Soleil. She’s performed at Birdland, the Blue Note, Winter Jazzfest, and concert venues and festivals all over from Japan to Kuala Lumpur.
My featured song is "The Gift”. This is the version which transformed my jazz ballad into a big band Samba. Spotify link.
