Mark Stein - Vanilla Fudge

Episode Summary

Mark Stein is one of the founding members of the Vanilla Fudge, one of the most iconic bands of the 1960s. He played organ and sang lead on one of the greatest rock songs ever recorded,  the Fudge’s version of “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”. Mark and I have a ball talking about how the Fudge came to be, their music, their appearance on Ed Sullivan, his love of The Rascals and Leslie West and the Vagrants, and what it was like to be right smack in the middle of the musical, cultural and fashion revolution of the 1960s. Then of course we do a Songfest where we play and talk about some great Fudge tunes.

A totally psychedelicly delicious episode!

KEY TAKEAWAYS: If something is what you really want in the deepest part of your soul then you must persevere with your blood and guts. Go after it. Never give up. Believe in yourself.

Robert’s featured song in this episode is his reimagined version of The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me” from Project Grand Slam’s album The Queen’s Carnival. Robert’s inspiration to reimagine iconic rock songs in the style of PGS derived from songs like the Fudge’s version of “You Keep Me Hangin’ On”.
